Sinatra said, “If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere” about New York City in his timeless ode to the Big Apple, entitled New York, New York. He’s absolutely right, with New York City seen as the mecca, the big time, and at times considered the world’s capital. When it comes to making capital in any field, New York City tends to be in the top 3 or the number one city to live in to “make it” in an industry whether it’s music, media, and even art.
New York City’s art scene has traveled through all 5 of New York City’s boroughs and through many forms – subway train and building graffiti, sculptures, and purchased paintings that show in galleries. As much as starving artists struggle to make it in New York City, whether they be painters, musicians, dancers or actors, there are a number of cities where they can make substantial strides without having to work two jobs and donate blood and sperm just to make it to their audition.
Policy Mic lists 5 cities in the United States that are booming in television, music, technology, and art and are much cheaper to live in than New York City. Check out the full list from Policy Mic here.
